Abstract: The collection documents activities at the Sedalia Post Office from about 1914 to 1917. Most of the materials in the collection relate to change of address forms or money orders. Since there was no bank in Sedalia, most transaction which today would be processed using a check were handled by money order.

Arrangement of the Collection

Binder is arranged in original order. Labels in some of the pages separate where the items were found in the books.

Scope and Content

The collection is composed of two bound volumes (the binding on one is broken) and one binder. The books, mostly money orders or materials, relating to change of address. The books have been microfilmed, three copies are available.


Biography / History

1872: Sedalia Post Office was Founded, Henry M. Clay was first Postmaster.

1883 - 1894: George Manhart is the Postmaster

1901 - 1914: George Manhart is again the Postmaster

1914 - 1920: John A. Kroeger is Postmaster

Acquisition Information

The Taylor documents came to the Local History Collection of the Douglas Public Library District from the Douglas County Historical Society after it disbanded. They were donated to the collection by Kent Brandeberry and Bob Terwilliger.
