A group of people pose near a bench at the Melvin Picnic Grounds just north of Parker, Colorado. Man, women and children pose for a portrait. Second from left in white skirt is Emma Lewis. Third from left, standing, is Rosella Hawkey. Seated at top center are Lena Kern Poppirt and Louella Hawkey Montgomey, between them is Daisy Hawkey Rowley. Man to left of tree is Charles Cummings. Blonde girl at base of tree is Corinne Hawkey McKimmie. Man on far right is Robert Hawkey. Written on the back of the print: "6-CA Emma C. Lewis" "Parker" "Taken by A.G. Russell, photographer, 2341 Franklin St., Denver "My first school picnic - June 1893" Melvin Picnic Grounds, near Cherry Creek State Park Little Blonde Girl on the right, head tilted - Correna Hawkey. Father, man on far right, Robert Hawkey. His wife and mother to Correna, 3rd from left. Older Hawkeys homesteaded 1 mile north of Arapahoe Rd. 1860. Mr. Hawkey's sister, Rhetta, married a Lewis. Pioneer cemetery 1 1/4 m. north of Araphahoe Rd. Bearing Lewis Name. Charles Cummings left of tree from right." Melvin, Colorado was the site of the twelve mile house, a stage stop near Arapahoe Road and probable location of this photo.
