.....The Cherry Valley School (District 40) is located on Highway 83 south of Franktown, about one quarter mile north of Gilliland Road. Cherry Valley was the last school built in the southeastern section of Douglas County. It was formed in 1952 by the consolidation of Spring Valley (District 3), Upper Lake Gulch (District 13) Cherry (District 20), East Cherry (District 22), Irving (District 24), and Pine Grove (El Paso County District 27.) The school originally had two classrooms. The Irving School was moved to the site for use as a teacherage and has now been converted back into classrooms.

..... Many additions have been made to the Cherry Valley school site, which is still in use by the Douglas County School District. The district moved an old army barracks onto the site, and temporary buildings have been moved in to accommodate other school services. The main building was recently remodeled to include an office and a handicapped accessible restroom. The school has 57 students, which is by far the smallest elementary school population in Douglas County.
