Speaking to the Future:
Daryl Tennal

Daryl L. Tennal Jr. recounts his experiences in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II. At the conclusion of boot camp, Tennal became a member a 19-man Battalion Marine Corps Band sent to the Pacific. When he was not performing with the band, Tennal participated in campaigns on Guadalcanal, Tulaghi and Guam. During fighting on Guam, Tennal received a shrapnel wound in the neck. He also contracted malaria during his time in the Pacific which continued to affect him after he left the service. Following his return to the United States, he married Arlene Thaut and they spent the last months before his discharge in October of 1945 in San Diego, CA. Tennal kept in touch with several of the men he served with after the war.

Daryl Tennal Finished Marine Boot Camp in November 1942.
